Today we explored bands and projects with interesting, unique, or just plain odd singers. The music itself was a mix of weird folk and nasty blues, some punky stuff, and kraut. I really enjoyed doing the research for this playlist and I hope you enjoyed listening to it. This was by far the least American AP, only 1 band was from the US. Normally I play a lot of American bands so just an interesting thing. Intro/outro for today was Il était une forêt by Gris.

TUESDAY 5TH AUGUST 2025Actual Paddock #11 - "Industrial"
Today's theme was industrial, which I know not very much about. A lot of the playlist was actually post punk with industrial influence, but it's hard to avoid that on an Aotearoa focused radio station because it seems that's what most of our industrial music (especially the older stuff) is. I liked the way the playlist worked out this week though. D.O.A. by Throbbing Gristle bookended our show today.
Throbbing Gristle - E-Coli

TUESDAY 22ND JULY 2025Actual Paddock #10 - "A Really Specific Kind Of Doom Metal"
Today's theme was really really really hard to explain. I tried. I really did. But I couldn't, so I hope the music speaks for itself. The songs on today's playlist share a few things in common, they are otherworldly sounding, have a bit of a spiritual theme going on, and are all super riffy and heavy. Also they are all looong. This playlist sets the record for the least songs in an action paddle or actual paddock show, with only 6! This was a really fun show to do and I think I will definitely do more metal/doom themed actual paddocks in the future. Intro / outro album was Conference of the Birds by OM.
OM - At Giza
Bong - The Golden Fields
Zaum - Omen
Shape Of Despair - Sylvan-Night
YOB - Marrow
OM - Flight of the Eagle

TUESDAY 8TH JULY 2025Actual Paddock #9 - "Mini Themes II"
Today we had a brand new episode of Mini Themes, and this time the themes were shorter and a bit different, focusing mostly on capturing a specific transition between vibes of music through similar instrumentation or themes. The Mini Themes were "a kind of beat", "different kinds of drones and animals", "capturing a change through one kind of beat and one vibe of "indie rock"", "if you told a tiny robot to make a playlist for you", and "kind of noisy but like in a room instead of in a mixer". It was really fun doing mini themes again and I will definitely make it a regular thing from now on. Have you got any ideas for other kinds of shows that could become a regular thing? Bookending the playlist was 50hz by the bug and Dabby You by Al Cisneros, from their vs album Rosin.
The Bug - 50hz

A one week delated birthday show, I fuel my ego by hosting myself as my own guest and only playing my favourite songs with no regard for how well they fit together in a playlist. This week was NZ music week, and so Radio 1 was playing entirely music from Aotearoa. The playlist this week was themed around the evolution of noise rock in NZ over the decades, and featured some more well known and influential bands as well as some I feel deserve more recognition in the NZ noise scene. THURSDAY 1ST MAY 2025Actual Paddock #4 "Post Rap"
This Actual Paddock I decided to venture out into a theme that I hadn't gone far into before, post rap and the greater experimental hip-hop scene. The bulk of the playlist was centred around the Anticon label and projects of Adam Drucker and Yoni Wolf, like Doseone, WHY?, and cLOUDDEAD. The rest of the playlist was split up into blocks of experimental hip-hop, weird dub and trip hop, and ambient / spoken word. I really enjoyed running this show and having it be informed by some friends, especially Tomas Middleton who recommended me a lot of the artists I played. Bookending the playlist this time was both the A and B sides of two singles that form part of the self-titled debut compilation album by cLOUDDEAD
cLOUDDEAD - I Promise To Never Get Paint On My Glasses Again (1 and 2)
